Em seu nono musical, a premiada Banda Mirim mistura elementos de várias tradições para narrar a história do jovem príncipe Sidarta Gautama, que há 2500 anos abandonou os luxos do palácio para conhecer o mundo real e alcançou a iluminação após uma profunda jornada de autoconhecimento.
Com dramaturgia e direção de Marcelo Romagnoli e direção musical de Tata Fernandes, BUDA estreia no dia 10 de novembro, sexta-feira, às 20h, no Sesc Santana. A temporada segue até 17 de dezembro, com sessões às sextas e aos sábados, às 20h e aos domingos, às 18h. O musical é recomendado para toda a família.
Com onze artistas em cena e música ao vivo tocada em cerca de 30 instrumentos de várias origens, o elenco conta com Alexandre Faria, Cláudia Missura, Edu Mantovani, Lelena Anhaia, Luciana Araújo, Nina Blauth, Nô Stopa, Olívio Filho,Simone Julian, Tata Fernandes e Thiago Amaral, que mostram o resultado de 3 anos de pesquisa.
“Figura emblemática principalmente para a cultura oriental, o desafio de superação do jovem Sidarta até alcançar a Iluminação e transformar-se em Buda é também um profundo ritual de passagem, pelo qual todos nós passamos durante a vida”, fala o diretor Marcelo Romagnoli.
Segundo a tradição, Sidarta foi concebido pelo Espírito da Verdade, que desceu à Terra sob a forma de elefante branco. Gurus previram seu destino, mas seu pai, o Rei Sudodana, queria que o filho seguisse seus passos e durante 29 anos escondeu de Sidarta o sofrimento e as misérias do mundo. Confinado pelos muros do palácio, desfrutou então de uma infância e adolescência de prazeres intermináveis.
Certa noite, porém, sua grande descoberta tem início quando foge para conhecer a cidade, o lado real da vida. A dura realidade da existência, marcada pela velhice, doença e morte fazem Sidarta mudar totalmente seu pensamento. O encontro com o Outro é o começo do encontro consigo mesmo. Naquele momento, decide cortar os cabelos, vestir-se com os trapos do desapego e partir em busca de um caminho que acabe com a eterna roda do sofrimento humano.
Debaixo da famosa árvore baniana, medita até encontrar a Verdade, enfrentando as tentações de Mara, o demônio dos desejos. Finalmente vence a própria mente e encontra a Iluminação, transformando-se então em um Buda, “o homem que despertou”.
Numa sociedade contemporânea cada vez mais individualista e solitária, a lenda do príncipe da pobreza ganha força especial, mostrando que depois de tantos séculos sua mensagem ainda é urgente.
A encenação
O texto de Marcelo Romagnoli busca inspiração em clássicos da literatura oriental, principalmente no Damapada, um compêndio de versos que trata dos ensinamentos e da prática budista, para criar uma dramaturgia leve e ágil, recheada de filosofia e de humor. O espetáculo não faz nenhuma apologia de ordem espiritual. Concentra-se, antes de tudo, em potencializar os aspectos da aventura humana de Sidarta, criando várias identificações com o espectador atual, de todas as idades.
Estão presentes na encenação influências da cultura popular brasileira, como o Caboclinho e o Reisado, e do Bollywood, as modernas danças da Índia. Outra influência importante para a encenação é o conceito do ator-narrador, proposto pelo teatro do diretor inglês Peter Brook, e a tradição oral africana, representada pela figura dos griots, contadores populares de histórias na África Ocidental.
A direção musical é da compositora e cantora Tata Fernandes. Com músicas inéditas e uma intensa pesquisa sonora para a trilha ao vivo, que mescla ritmos afros, orientais e nordestinos, a Banda Mirim canta e toca em cena mais de 30 instrumentos diferentes, entre uma variada percussão, sopros, sanfona, violão, kalimba, guitarra, viola e eletrônicos, como wave drum, criando um espetáculo que envolve toda a família.
O cenário, assinado por Marisa Bentivegna, recria o ambiente misterioso das florestas indianas e dialoga com a beleza árida das aldeias africanas, utilizando centenas de varas de vime e esteiras de junco.
O forte visual do cenário dialoga com os figurinos criados por Thiago Amaral, que propõe um mix da tradição hindu com a cultura pop, usando muitas cores, acessórios e sobreposições.
Processo de criação
Desde que o projeto “Buda – Cadernos de Pesquisa” foi selecionado pela 26ª edição do Programa de Fomento ao Teatro para a Cidade de São Paulo em 2015, a Banda Mirim vem pesquisando o universo e a vida de Sidarta Gautama, sobretudo em sua juventude.
Esse laboratório contou com uma coleta de histórias reais por meio de visitas que os artistas fizeram a abrigos de crianças abandonadas, casas de repouso para idosos em situação de vulnerabilidade social e centros de acolhimento para a população de rua e refugiados. Assim como o Buda, a companhia procurou deixar o conforto de sua sede para conhecer e vivenciar de perto as mazelas humanas contemporâneas.
A partir dessa experiência, foram compostas canções como Vai Encarar, que traduz as sensações dos atores-narradores nesse processo, e É o Bicho, que representa o encontro de Sidarta com a doença. A ideia da montagem é convidar os espectadores a pensar sobre o respeito à diversidade, a prática da tolerância e a vivência da cidadania.
O primeiro resultado do processo criativo foi o show Banda Mirim Canta Buda, apresentado no Sesc Consolação, em 2016, em comemoração ao dia das crianças. Esse espetáculo contou com a participação especial dos cantores Chico César, Anelis Assumpção e Arícia Mess.
O processo criativo também foi registrado no documentário Banda Mirim Doc # 1 | Notas De Uma Pesquisa (disponível emhttps://youtu.be/vAzY-k0EiAA) e no segundo volume da Revista Banda Mirim, com o título # 2 | Notas De Uma Pesquisa.

A premiada Banda Mirim é especialista em criar espetáculos que mesclam teatro, música e circo para crianças e jovens. O coletivo é formado pelos artistas, Alexandre Faria, Cláudia Missura, Edu Mantovani, Lelena Anhaia, Marcelo Romagnoli, Marisa Bentivegna, Nina Blauth, Nô Stopa, Olívio Filho, Simone Julian e Tata Fernandes.
O repertório do grupo conta com os musicais Felizardo (2004); O Menino Teresa (2007), que foi transformado em um programa da TV Cultura e em uma série de oito episódios publicadas no suplemento infantil da Folha de S.Paulo; Sapecado(2008), eleito o melhor espetáculo infantil pelo Guia Folha e pela revista VEJA; Espoleta (2010), que também ganhou um especial televisivo na mesma emissora e foi reconhecido pelos mesmos veículos impressos; Rádio Show (2011); A Criança Mais Velha do Mundo (2011), O Fantasma do Som (2013) e Festa (2014).
Ao longo de seus 13 anos de trajetória, Banda Mirim realizou aproximadamente 900 apresentações (para cerca de 200 mil espectadores) e cinco mostras de repertório, além de lançar quatro CDs, cinco DVDs, três livros e duas revistas.
